Many people will not buy dedicated since there is a lack of infrastructure.
Please support HR 1835, The Nat Gas Act of 2009, it does give incentives to the manufacturers to build bi-fuel vehicles!
In Arizona our dedicated vehicles don't go out of town.
We have one new vehicle (2004) and the rest were purchased used.
There are not the choices now that there used to be and HR 1835 will help with that too as well as the infrastructure challenges.

As you said, the conversions are too expensive. I checked into the JiffyGas conversion system, but $5,000 is simply unreasonable. I can put a rebuilt engine and transmission in my Explorer cheaper than that. If I was them, I would try to make $200 profit on each conversion and try to convert 1 million cars. That would certainly pay the light bill.

America Continues to Waste over 70% of the Energy it Consumes.
100's of millions of lights unnecessarily burn during the day and night, over heating and over cooling is the norm, over packaging, inadequate recycling, toxic landfills, horrendous road congestion, and our perverted obsession with road construction. Public and Private buildings, Schools, Churches, Homes, ... America's blatant energy waste and overuse is culturally pervasive, and abominable !

1- ONLY with a substantial and tangible economic reward/consequence will most Americans care to conserve.
Crude oil must be taxed at $200 per barrel and offset by making income tax begin at $60k.
Taxing energy is simple, fair, economically sound, and available TODAY.
2- The American auto industry must quickly transition to the 6.4 BILLION people reason$ to manufacture solar, wind, and other alternative energy producers. They already have the needed infrastructure. Every home and building in the world, could be using solar energy. We are fast running out of fossil fuels !

Humanity is racing toward extinction, via global warming, for our failure to stop our energy waste.
Taxing energy (in lieu of income taxes) is the ONLY incentive that will stop energy waste and cause renewable energy sources to be employed.

The Pickens Plan is an all of the above type effort as long as its American and not imported, we all have our favorites, which is good.

We build true Zero Energy Lifestyle homes with the latest U.S. Oak Ridge National Lab DBMS report defined "Asymmetrical" ICF system (google that; see Figure 2 type 3 on the Chart 4). It is 246% more energy efficient than a wood/stud wall. Then we add a Geothermal/Solar Radiant energies management system which includes a Fresh Air exchanger instead of a recirculating HVAC unit. Our Technology Demonstrator display home is proposed for a new subdivision that is 100% infrastructure complete and ready for the Zero Energy model-home/sales-office construction. Anything about Fuelmaker rising from the ashes? Who would you recommend as an alternative small/medium fleet fueling system. I am attempting to form relationships with the various vender/suppliers for a NGV conversion business here. The vehicle part is easy. The fueling is a bit more difficult. If you could pass me any help/suggestions I would be very grateful. I'm sure you have run into a few walls and it would be nice to know about them before getting too bloodied in the process.

What about hybrid CNG-battery? It seems we in Texas are slowly moving in the right direction. Centerpoint Energy along with Green Cities are holding a workshop for CNG development in Houston at the Galleria Omni hotel on thurs. the 9th. I'm looking forward to us finally taking this option seriously.
