Dear Mr. Holbrook :
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Pickens Plan. I appreciate your thoughts and understand your concerns on this important issue.
As you may know, the United States imports more oil from the Middle East today than we did before the September 11th attacks and remains the most oil-dependent industrialized nation, consuming about 25 percent of the world's oil supply.
This dangerous dependence on foreign oil has serious economic and national security implications for the United States . As such, research into ways to reduce our consumption of foreign oil is ongoing.
T. Boone Pickens, the founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, has introduced his "Pickens Plan" to reduce our dependence on foreign oil by shifting electricity production away from natural gas fired power plants to clean, renewable wind energy. By freeing up natural gas for electricity generation, Mr. Pickens argues that we can utilize our domestic natural gas resources to fuel our cars and trucks, which in turn would reduce our need for foreign oil.
Please rest assured that as research efforts continue, I will carefully examine the most practical, efficient, and expedient means to shift our country away from foreign oil and towards clean, renewable energy sources. Should further legislation to accomplish this end come before the full Senate during the 110 th Congress, I will keep your views in mind.
Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope that the information I have provided is helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov, can provide additional details about legislation and state projects, and you can also sign up to receive my monthly e-newsletter, The Bayh Bulletin , by clicking on the link at the top of my homepage. I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

What can you do to get the national Plan to change the gov. of KY to Steve Bershear? I have been trying to contact my state politicians through the main web site but the have Ernie Fletcher still listed as gov. I have sent a couple of messages to the plan but still not corrected.
You must be busy. So, I won't take much of your time.
We live in the freest country in the world. And yet, there is information not being broadcast to the American public about all the 2008 presidential candidates. Where is the information about Bob Barr and Ralph Nader? They are running for president too. Not everyone will agree on their policies or plans of action for our country, but we find that the other candidates that are so profoundly broadcast and their running mates also have their share of discrepancies with the American voters. It is our duty to be informed to the best of our ability as voters. Doing research on all of the candidates is time consuming and made difficult when they are not part of the public “Dog and Pony Shows” also know as debates. Are we being denied information; or are these not so known candidates being denied their right to speech in the freest of countries? The policy to include only the best fundraising candidates makes me question their integrity. I do not want a superstar with some subliminal message of change and freedom to lead my country. I want to see a president that is not afraid to debate with all parties for election. Was it The League of Women Voters that called your corporatized debates devoid of substance, spontaneity, and honest answers to tough questions?
So please drop your exclusionary restrictions, and let all of the 2008 presidential candidates into the debates. It will be good for your conscience, good for the American people, and good for democracy. Let the American people have a real debate for once.

Mike--I've sent messages to others on the need to organize a source for local information on alternative energy sources. In other words, how does one get natural gas--how would you go about getting a ng car--how would you get a wind generator etc.. Perhaps something central like that exists on at local level, but I havn't found it yet.
There is not any compressed natural gas refilling stations in Kentucky......or barely any. I would love to install a conversion unit on my muscle car so I can help convince people of the benefits. I show the car regularly. However, converting the car would not benefit me any if I cannot find a way of refilling. I don't even have access to natural gas at my home. What plans, if any, are there bringing natural gas refilling stations throughout Kentucky and what can I do to help?
In addition, tell me if these "wind mills" have any importance in Kentucky. If so, who's installing these? I have a significant amount of land that farming has become infeasible to. Would these "windmills" bring income back to the local farmer?? Because farming is beginning to look like it will soon end if one cannot pay the bills.

Thanks Joe

Hi all - thanks for being such fantastic and passionate supporters of the Pickens Plan! Things are really starting to move nationwide and know that you all are the folks who are making it happen. Keep spreading the good word and bringing more people aboard - this is grassroots networking at it's best. If you come across articles on the Plan or Mr. Pickens in your local state newspapers or great blogs about energy and the plan let me know. Consider writing your own blog - let the world know you're in favor of sensible energy. Stop back here and your state pages often. It is my (and the whole Pickens team's) intent to keep you informed and excited as we grow!

MARTINEZ: “GANG OF 10” PROPOSAL IS WRONG FOR U.S.
September 12, 2008 - WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding the pending “Gang of 10” proposal that is expected to be brought up for consideration next week during the Senate’s debate on overhauling U.S. energy policy.
Senator Martinez said:
“I am for more domestic exploration. We need to drill for oil in ANWR and the OCS. We need to start taking advantage of the vast supplies of oil shale in the West. We need to do all of these things in conjunction with conservation and developing alternative energy supplies like nuclear, clean coal, bio fuels, and renewable resources.
“The ‘Gang of 10’ as it has been presented falls far short of meeting our nation’s energy needs and instead threatens to raise the price of fuel at a time when Americans are already paying record high prices. Worse yet, the proposal blocks states like Florida from determining their own fate as exploration is concerned. Florida in particular is harmed by this proposal because it walls off production except for in the most sensitive environmental and military training areas.
“The time for patchwork solutions is past. The time for political posturing is over. The American people are overwhelmed with the prices at the pump and they demand a comprehensive solution. The best alternative on the table right now is S. 3202, the Gas Price Reduction Act. S. 3202 is a balanced approach that will help lower fuel costs in the near term and give America the energy independence it needs.”
Hi Mike . I have just signed up and it appears i am the only one in my area. I would really like to change that. I think anyone who is a member of this site knows already that we can not count on our elected officials to solve this problem. And it is about time that we as americans take control of our country again. so in closing i would welcome any advice from you about moving forward with this message. thank you, sincereley Chris Williams
