I think it behooves us all to think carefully about how we consume. We got into this economic and ecological mess by *not* thinking about how we consume. We got into these messes by not thinking much at all.

I'm not interested in trading comfort for austerity--but I have my own personal definitions of comfort and austerity. Without a car, I feel free. Nobody will ever die because I smacked into them while not paying attention to the road. If you saw how people drive in this town, it would put you off driving for the rest of your life.

I can work part time because I don't have to support a car. I support mass transit instead, and throw some bucks to cabdrivers as well. This doesn't seem like austerity to me. It seems like looking at a situation that's gotten way out of hand, and having none of it.

Suffering doesn't appeal to me, but neither does wasting money on stuff I don't care about. The money I save I put toward things I do care about.

What does atomic decomposition have to do with biomass? To answer the question it would depend on what you are decoposing and to what degree the decoposition occurred as well as the amount of material you began with. Afterall tomuch water is lethal while cyanide in the proper dosage can be beneficial.
