Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. The Points system in California and MAss. is based upon a "fleet' rating for a large volume car manufacturer. In order to be allowed to sell higher polluting vehicles in great number, the manufacturer must build and sell in the state a minimum number of extremely low polluting vehicles, thereby "averaging" out the emissions across the models offered. The State's have developed a points system for the differing levels of emissions, more points for low emissions, so the manufacturer gets a pile a points and "spends" them on selling high polluters. Essentially the GX is sold at a loss in order to sell Honda SUV's and Minivans...
am helping Ken get the word out to the folks on his list.

We all share the same goal; to rid ourselves of foreign oil and clean up our environment for our children and grandchildren. Wind energy is a viable alternative. Some of us have a different ideas of what we can do for immediate relief.
Check out our group "Live Carbon Free" and see how we are promoting conservation and environmental stewardship as the bridge to future energy developments. Regardless of what we do, it will take some time to implement on a significant scale. For immediate results we can make a huge difference by conserving what we have.
We would like for you to join our group and value your input. Feel free to add me as a friend.
Debra, you commented about ETT: "... I am having trouble figuring out if it is like a monorail or a tube people are "floating" in. Certainly it is requiring a good deal of investment and capital. ... It would be great if we could get past our carbon based system ..."
Debra,
With ETT, travel in car sized, magnetically levitated vehicles, takes place in tubes that have virtually all the air permanently removed, so ETT is like "space travel on earth" (tm). Since the ETT vehicles weigh less than 1/100th as much as locomotives, the infrastructure costs are less than 1/10th the cost of HSR, and under 1/4th the cost of freeways.
ETT is faster than jets, yet requires 1/50th as much energy as electric cars or electric trains. There is much more info on the et3 website
Debra,
Thank you for your many comments on the "We are TRANSPORTATION dependent -- not oil dependent." thread. I hope you visit my page and the ETT group to learn more about how ETT offers everything you claim to desire about trains, AND uses 1/50th as much energy, and can be built for less than 1/10th the cost.
Debra
I am much older than you and have been through this three or four times. Alternatives are a piece of the puzzle but only a small player in the short run. Oil will be prime for the next ten to twenty years and then start to be replaced with new technologies. I will electric motor was invented steam engines and belt/pulley system provided the power for industry. How long di it take to change over to the superior electric motor? Would you believe 50 years. The point being we have so much invested in the gasoline transportation system it will take many years to convert to a new paradigm. The poor can not afford new cars and they must get to their jobs. All worker can not sell their house and move to bike distance form their jobs. It would take huge displacements of people to use the European design of large urban cities and train systems. America has proved the majority does not like bus/train transportation because unlike Europe it is a long distance from New York city to Los Angles so air travel is available to even cities with 10,000 population.
I support development of "all" forms of energy but am realistic oil/gas/coal will be a big part for a long time. The quicker we build a few hundred nuclear plants the quicker we can get off oil.
PLEASE email the Pickens Plan video to everyone you know. www.pickensplan.com. Ask them to join. Ask them to pass it along. Time is of the essence. If every member had 10 friends join today, we could put the number of members over 1 million very quickly!
If we can not get critical numbers how can we take advantage of this golden opportunity? High gas prices have "woken up" America to our plight and a paradigm shift like not other is in the wind. We need to do this now.
So many new members write "I want to help, what can I do?" This is a start. We may not get to the next step if we can not get this one done.
Our leaders can not ignore millions of members of the Pickens Plan. We are not there yet. One person can make a difference.
