Hello,
I just wanted to take a minuet of your time to let you know that a residential solar revolution has started that will change the way you think about solar.

Please – this is not a sales pitch, but an opportunity to get involved in the greening of America.
Thank You for your time.
Thanks very much for watching the video and commenting. I agree with you that gas and coal are not permanent solutions since they are limited resources, but I do think they provide a good bridge until permanent solutions are found...especially in the US where we have a long ways to go. I see a first step as attaining independence, and gas and coal provide near term bridges as we look for permanent solutions.
Kindest regards,
Jennifer

HJM,
Great to know that people like you support Boone Picken's Plan as well.
If you are involved in a company, either in investment or renewable energy, feel free to share the info on the same.
Yes, in answer to your questions RE: ALR, we also reutilize older industrial buildings and revitalize the same. We call this recycling of buildings and land for sustainable growth. I have been involved in the reuse of old warehouse buildings, etc. (former GE, etc.) for
other higher demand uses.
Thank you for your kind support. Switzerland is beautiful. I was there many years ago while in graduate school studies.
I'm delighted to make your acquaintance. Have you been active in promoting similar ideas in your country or interested in becoming involved with promoting alternative energy solutions?
I look forward to learning about your initiatives. Perhaps I can be of support to you as I do considerable work abroad...simply ask.
All the best,
RoseMarie LaCoursiere

Well, let's say that it is not easy to cycle or walk to work, especially here in the east. I'm fortunate to live not far from the hospital where I work. My town is not an easy place to ride my bike to (no bike lanes, drivers in a hurry to get to the next red light)
but I persist. Happy day. Betsy
My roommate at MITRE was a Swiss scientist, a brilliant man of vision and the highest integrity. He and I worked on alternative energy solutions together. His experience at CERN was vital to our analysis of advanced nuclear systems, such as fast and slow breeders, use of thorium fuels, and also optimal fuel cycle analysis and net energy production studies. Dr. Marcel Barbier and I also presented the results of our work in advanced energy systems to large crowds of scientists and engineers in Paris, Rome, and many places abroad back in the '70's.
I only mention Marcel to you since he is Swiss. I trust that you may have much to offer the world, too. I am happy to be a friend.

Hans,
Thanks for the note. While I appreciate Al Gore's plan, there is no way I can vote for Obama (I am a conservative republican). Hopefully, the Republicans will step up. If not, we will have to do everything we can do as citizens to make the plan work. Have a great rest of the long weekend!

Q Do I have a plan for ending oil imports in 5 years? possibly, yes
My work is in the calculation stage. Data from US DOT shows travel statistics, data from Energy Information Agency shows fuel use and refining. Other info on car miles driven, average auto efficiency are part of the spreadsheet model.
The calculations create scenarios that reduce gasoline consumption by 50% to start. Still much more work is needed but that is the approach.
Key sources of less gasoline use are more riders per vehicle (van pools, car pools, internet secured trip merging groups to "compress" car use) and designated areas for use by only mini super efficient cars -- no risk of getting smashed by an SUV.
More is in the works but it is not really a plan, it is an estimate of doable reductions.
On the non transportation side, nuclear power must have a fair day to return to promanance given its very good safety record. Wind power must continue to grow but not in a crash program with money as no object.
Hans,
I would like to do the solar hot water heating as well. I am planning to build and will be putting radiant tubing in the floors. What solar water heater have you found to be the best?
In the early 1980's the price per kWh was roughly 40 cents for wind generated electricity, now with the latest technology utilized by the turbine manufactuers, the cost is roughly 2-5 cents per kWh.
Hi Hans,
Thanks for the comments and I totally agree with you. I want to develop a website that people can link to, but just don't have the time now. I am working on a shorter intro letter that will just link people to the websites I encourage. The Earth Ship design concept has been around for a long time.....almost as long as the initiative in Davis, CA back in the late 70s and early 80s. The granddad of the earth bermed or sheltered home is Malcolm Wells who encouraged this type of architecture 30 years ago. Then, the first Earth Ship here in America that I am aware of was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1948. (Google: Jacobs II house - it was called a "hemicycle" home). That place inspired my perception of architecture back in the late 1950s where man lives in harmony with nature.
I am curious about your geothermal heating system. Who is the manufacturer??? I am going to replace my propane furnace next year and am also looking into geothermal that I can integrate with my solar hot water system. Thanks........Lee
Subsidies would be nice, and it would be grand if alternative energy subsidies or tax breaks were tied into the massive mortgage bailout.
We have 330 days of clear sun annually here in Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California & Texas, good for PV and Stirling (thermal steam engines). With those kinds of resources it would be a shame to waste them.
Granted, the more we build solar into the grid, the cheaper manufacture & installation will become.
MASSIVE solar & wind drives will also push the cost of oil speculation way down.
I see from the other comments that you do solar panels.
Great!!!
One school in Philadelphia is going Geothermal heating.
It is just being installed now. I'll let you know how they like it.
