TELL THEM IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PICKENS. IT HAS TO DO WITH A PLAN TO GET US OFF FOREIGN OIL, AND UNTIL ONE OF THE CANDIDATES TELLS US WHAT HIS PLAN TO DO THAT IS, THEN THE ONLY PLAN OUT THERE IS PICKENS PLAN!!!! HOW CAN IT HURT THE ECONOMY TO KEEP OUR DOLLARS AT HOME AND EXPAND AND EXISTING TECHNOLOGY BASE ALREADY BEING USED?
I'd like to make a comment here in opposition to Prop 10. First let me say to Mr. Pickens that I am a member of the Picken's army and I am very grateful for the attention that you are bringing with your experience as an oil industry leader to our energy problem.
It seems clear that Mr. Pickens will benefit financially from this prop. Personally I don't have a problem with people making money in regards to our energy problem. In fact, I think it's exceptionally important that free market pressure helps us solve this crisis.
Sadly, the fact that Mr. Pikens will benefit financially from this proposition and has paid entirely for it's marketing and voter presentation means that major environmental organizations MUST SUPPORT any bill that Mr. Pickens supports.
I know that if I had the money and the power to work on this problem I would try and do it myself in a similar fashion to Mr. Pickens. Certainly, action is required now more than ever. However, as a member of the Environmental Defense Fund, The League of Conservation Voters, Greenpeace as well as a contributor to the Sierra Club, if these organizations do not support a prop, then I cannot vote for it.
I was thrilled to see on the first Pickens army rally that the president of the Sierra Club was on with Boone. However, it's not enough just to consult with or have those people around. We must have plans that also receive their endorsements. To do that, the appearance of self promoting ideas must be eliminated from the public mind. If not, opponents who may have less noble intentions than Mr. Pickens can easily claim that his altruism is merely about money as a friend of mine whom I asked to join the army in fact claimed.
As an Picken's army supporter, it is my sincerest hope that we will continue to fight for energy independence AND get the critical backing of watchdog groups whose support can put our efforts over the top of any opposition.
One of the arguments that No on Prop 10 makes is that truckers can benefit from a rebate for buying a CNG truck (10s of thousands of dollars) then leave the state the next day. If this is true that means that T Boone is trying to take advantage of us Californians. The thought of a California in debt, giving rebates to trucking companies that leave the state is appalling to me. If anyone knows the details on this part of CA prop 10 please let me know.
